My work explores the elucidation of intrinsic and extrinsic point and complex (magnetic) defects, which contain unpaired spins in 2D semiconducting materials (e.g. MoS2, WS2) beyond graphene. Furthermore, I also study the doping (Co, Ni, Mn, Fe) and irradiation (electron and proton) induced magnetic properties of these 2D nano materials for next generation spintronic applications. I extensively employ most complementary techniques such as multi-frequency EPR spectroscopy, PPMS and SQUID magnetometry to address my research objectives.

My research examines the magnetic properties of materials in the hopes of improving their tunability of said properties for applications. Currently, I am working with bulk single crystals and studying to see the effects on their magnetic properties upon proton irradiation. Additional work on ferromagnetic van der Waals materials is being carried out to study their magnetic properties under the application of pressure. The magnetic properties of these materials are measured using Quantum Design's Versalab PPMS and MPMS 3 systems.

Research activities include studies on hydrostatic pressure-dependent magnetic properties of bulk van der Waals crystals (CrI3, CRBR3, VI3), data analysis of magnetic measurements, and preparation of said data for formal presentation. Additional activities include sample synthesis, sample preparation, and hands-on employment of a variety of equipment (magnetometers and accompanying attachments).
